Configuration
The following settings are done in the BIOS. On the Supermicro mainboard you have to press DEL during boot to enter the setup.
#
System Datetime
Set the correct date and time in the BIOS. TrueNAS relies on this information, even when you configure a NTP server for time sync.
On Linux systems, you have to set UTC time in the BIOS. The timezone will then be calculated in TrueNAS Scale to match your region. Setting the wrong time may result in some ugly side effects, e.g.:
- You may not be able to download apps from TrueCharts
- When you copy or create files on the server through a share, the files may have the wrong create/modify time

Graphics Configuration
To use Intels QuickSync, it may be necessary to enable it first in the BIOS. For this setup to work, go to Advanced -> Chipset Configuration -> System Agent (SA) Configuration -> Graphics Configuration and set the following settings. The settings are kind of self-explanatory.
Skip Scanning Of External GFx Cards->EnablePrimary Display->IGFXInternal Graphics->Enable

Power Configuration
Next, I set the AC Loss Policy Depend On to Stay Off under
Advanced
->
Boot Features
. Since the server is connected to a UPS and a power outage shouldn't happen at all, it's better to stay off if everything goes wrong and it still happens.

CPU Configuration
Setting Turbo Mode to Disable under
Advanced
->
CPU Configuration
is not required, hence if you don't really need it, it's better for the lifetime of the CPU and the energy consumption to disable it. You can also disable or re-enable it at any time later.
